Latifat Tijani  a female powerlifting athlete has won a silver -Nigeria’s first medal-at the ongoing Rio Paralympic Games.

Tijani came second in the women’s 45kg category after lifting an impressive 106kg just a kilo behind China’s Hu Dandan who set a new world record with her 107kg lift.

Nigeria won all her six medals at the London 2012 Paralympics in the powerlifting event with four gold and silver.

It will really be interesting to see how athletes at the paraolympics will fare this year as compared to their able bodied collegues who only won a bronze in male football.

Congrats Latifat! Go Team Nigeria Go!!!

What our able-bodied athletes cannot do, our disabled athletes continue to deliver yet they are not recognised enough. Kudos to them.
