The other remarkable thing is how quiet the prison is. There isn’t any of the enraged, persistent banging of doors you hear in regular prisons, because the prisoners are not locked up much during the day.
Even hours after lunch the guards on Unit A bring inmates a tall stack of steaming, heart-shaped waffles and pots of jam, which they set down on a checked tablecloth and eat together, whiling away the afternoon…chai.
The governor, Are Høidal of the prison theres hardly prisoner attack on guards, staff hospitalisations, guard restraints on prisoners, or prisoner-on-prisoner assaults.
He furthermore says that there isn’t much violence there and he can’t even remember the last time there was a fight.

The prison according to him is to rehabilitate and not to punish. Prisoner’s have access to monitored internet. There is a climate switch that regulates the weather outside and adjusts to favour the prisoners.
There’s a fully stocked library and gym. There’s even a swimming pool for those who relax with water!!
