Mis Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzach was wide-eyed and frozen after Harvey first revealed his slip-up and she realized exactly what that meant for her
Comedian Steve Harvey yesterday featured in one of the worst TV moments of the year just as 2015 wraps up.
The ‘Think like a man’ author while hosting the Miss Universe pageant Sunday night in Las Vegas, called out Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the Miss Universe 2015 competition on LIVE television. But to the horror of the crowd and TV viewers around the world, the crown had to be removed from the head of Miss Colombia and given to the real winner Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
See photos and video below:
After they made it to the top three spots Harvey revealed to the women that their fellow competitors were going to help decide who would be named Miss Universe 2015
Just as Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was blowing kisses and waving to her adoring fans she was informed, on live television, that host Steve Harvey had read the results wrong
It was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who had taken the crown, and Gutierrez had to bend down and allow Former Miss Universe Paulina Vega to remove it from her head on live television
The crown was then placed on Wurtzbach’s head and the telecast abruptly came to an end, before she was allowed a victory lap
Fellow contestants flocked to congratulate Wurtzbach after she was revealed to be the true winner of the pageant
And others rushed to comfort Gutierrez after the cameras shut off and the mistake settled in
She and Vega had first rushed to embrace each other when it was believed Colombia would remain the reigning Miss Universe
The embarrassed host even showed the results card to the camera to prove that it had truly been his own personal mistake
Steve after the colossal mistake then went to Twitter to apologise:
Steve is one comedian/actor I respect a lot and I think it was a honest mistake albeit costly. Hopefully he is not fined, or sued or anything like that.
