On Thursday, the First Lady of America Michelle Obama and Saturday Night Live‘s Jay Pharoah dropped a  rap video “Go To College Music Video,” encouraging young people go to college, and the video had been met with mixed reactions.

While many think it is  a great attempt at outreach as the application deadline for most colleges swiftly approaches, others are saying that the video is yet another way the Obamas have disgraced America. Some readers even went ahead to call the American first lady the “nappy headed ape”, transgender among other unprintable names.

I think its impressive for the American first lady to leave her comfort zone and try to do something young people can identify with. Anyway, watch the video below and be the judge.

So what do you think?

I think Michelle and Barrack have nothing to loose anymore, so they’re going the whole nine yard to appeal to the necessary quarters.
Moji, sometimes when you wanna catch a monkey, you act like one, and to make an impact on the young generation, you have to speak their language, the street language, talk the talk, and walk the walk, cos street has taking over, talking real doesn’t bring the big dough.
Critics are just mad, cos this is the most outspoken first lady, she refused to be tame, she ain’t nobody’s lap dog. Michelle’s vision has always been about the young generation been the source of change. #CatchThemYoung…
Michelle express herself to make her point, she’s never worried of the backlash, she speaks the truth, she speaks her mind and the more you crucified her, the more she goes all out. She be like Taylor Swift on haters As*, #ShakeItOff…

That’s the power of Black woman, bold, beautiful, audacious, natural, unscripted, you can never put them in a straight jacket. Americans are used to scripted first lady, homemaker housewife first lady , so when they have a first lady with an opinion, they just don’t get it.

Haters gonna hate hate hate hate
Players gonna play play play play
I’m just gonna shake Shake Shake Shake
Shake it off shake it off
    – Taylor Swift

Bow down, when I come to your town
Bow down, when I’m westward bound
Bow down, cuz, I ain’t no hater like you
So bow down to a Ni**@ that’s greater than you

I totally, absolutely love the video, plus it’s a good move. To reach out to young people in this generation, you need to go through a corridor they can relate to. And that’s what Michelle Obama just did. There will always be critics no matter what we do in life. Not everyone will love you for your bold actions. That’s just the way life is. Kudos to Michelle. I really feel this.

Waow Michelle is a rare gem, she has done what no first lady has ever did. I said cuddos to her. She turn a rapper just to let her vision of catching them young count. Let those who are myopic continue to criticise her for me, she did a perfect job.

I love the video and it is actually a great idea to encourage young folks to go to school. Haters are gonna hate anyways. Just do what you gotta do.

This video is cute. I really support her for this initiative but can we imagine our own First Lady rapping? That would be the day.
