There is pandemonium in Ile Ife, Osun State following the outbreak of violence between some Yoruba youths and Hausa people in the area.

Residents have reportedly fled their homes in the area as the violence which began this morning (Wednesday)  escalates.

According to Punch, the latest ethnic clash in the region started after a misunderstanding between a Yoruba man and a Hausa man in the Sabo area.

It is understood that the unnamed Yoruba man was beaten by a group of Hausa traders after a clash with one of their own.

This prompted an angry response from youths in the area who besieged the Hausa community early Wednesday in retaliation.

Unconfirmed reports allege that several persons have been killed in the mayhem. Meanwhile, some residents were seen fleeing the Sabo area, while some kiosks were set ablaze by an angry mob.

The Osun State Police Command is yet to respond to the outbreak of violence which is becoming a recurring theme in the southwest over the past year.

Three people reportedly died when Hausa and Yoruba youths clashed in Ijora Badia in Lagos last June, while another Lagos community broke out in violence after a Hausa man killed a Yoruba man over N30 earlier this year.
